The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq has inaugurated a Planning committee charged with the responsibility of ensuring the successful hosting of the forthcoming Nigeria International Humanitarian Summit in Abuja; a Thursday statement from the Ministry said.

Represented by the Director of Humanitarian Affairs Alhaji Ali Grema, the Minister commended the prompt response to the notice of the meeting and attendance despite the short notice.

According to the Minister, “The Summit is expected to showcase the tremendous achievements of this Administration in the Humanitarian Sector and would also have in attendance members of the Federal Executive Council, Top Government Functionaries, Distinguished Nigerians and other Humanitarian Actors both local and international that are operating in Nigeria.

“Every Department and Agency must participate and avail themselves in the planning and execution of this Summit”.

She disclosed that the Consultant Brevity Anderson has already achieved a milestone in preparation to successful hosting of the Summit.

The Minister urged the committee to ensure that a week before the programme, all issues on preparation are concluded. In order to have a successful Summit the Planning Research and Statistics Department will be coordinating the hosting of the Summit.

The committee will be chaired by the Director Planning Research and Statistics, Mr. Peter Nwakpa, who will report to the Permanent Secretary at the end of every meeting and to develop a checklist to track every line of activity on the agenda.

The following Subcommittees were also approved to support the execution of the programme, as follows: Secretariat, Venue, Logistics, Protocol and Security, Publicity, Health, Feeding and Refreshment.

The Chairman of the Committee Mr. Peter Nwakpa promised to work, assiduously to ensure a successful hosting of the event and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the committee.
